Strengths: Does everything it says it well do

Weakness: CD sound disappointing. DVI upconversion does not improve the OK picture using component connections.

I bought this unit because I needed a universal player with the upconverting DVI feature to imptove my Video experience. Well although everything works just fine, nothing is excellent. The picture is no better than that produced by mt Sony NS700, or my Technics DVD A10. (my projector hasa Faroudja scaler so I can use an interlaced picture) But worst of all, the DVI connection even upconverted to 1080i, is no better than the component connection. What a bummer.And although DVD-audio sounds great, regular CD's sound edgy and clinical compared to the natural sound of CD's that come from my Technics DVD A10.( the technics re-masters the cds,taking away that edgy, rasp that makes cds sound so less natural than records.So, I am disappointed that the picture is not jaw dropping and the cd sound is only fair. (system is bryston electronics, magneplanar speakers,velodyne sub, and InFocus FP.)But the unit works well, with no operational issues, build quality looks good,and it does everything but put the coffee on!

Was the long search for a DVD-2910 (in-stock) worth the effort and time spent?

Strengths: Both DVI and HDMI (upconverted) output, DVD-Audio,SACD, DVD+R/RW and aclaimed Denon quality.

Weakness: Hard to find in-stock, Denon warranties only if purchased from list of on-line dealers found on web site (good luck trying to find a DVD-2910 in Little Rock, AR. without paying through the tooth).

Is the Denon DVD-2910 worth the effort to find it in-stock from one of the on-line dealers listed from their web site? Don't purchase it elsewhere or they won't support you or your 1 year warranty. Other web sites not listed as Denon on-line dealers will try to sell you a warranty, but buyer beware of back room warranties not authorized by Denon. This is a replacement for my long-time Pioneer...

This is a replacement for my long-time Pioneer DV-05 that crapped out on me after 7 years of service. Picture quality not as good as my 7 year old DV-05 was, but I will give the DVD-2910 its dues for its audio quality and list of supported media, audio and video outputs. But was it worth it; for now I say no because of it's picture quality; could of saved some $$ purchasing something with identical audio outs (maybe not with the same level of quality) and similiar video outs (but not both DVI and HDMI), but the plan was to find a replacement DVD player for my soon to be HD-TV which I hope will then change my mind about the video quality.

Strengths: Good simple controls. Warm natural sound. Only player I know of w/HDCD+SACD+DVD-Audio

Weakness: Wouldn't play any MP3 data disks. No volume control on remote.

Reviews and specs indicate that the 2910 plays MP3 data disks. I've tried to load many disks and with each one, the front panel reads "Stop" and no front panel or remote control button will play or even recognize contents. These are disks that play on an inexpensive JVC DVD player, as well as any audio CD player that supports MP3 format. They are brand name CD-Rs written at standard bit rates of 128, 192, and 320 trying different formats (ISO9660, Joliet, UDF). If you don't care about MP3 format, this is a nice (if expensive) player with good sound. It wasn't what the specs promised so I returned it for a refund.
