Description:

The VSX-816-K is the perfect choice for a small to medium sized home theater. With 7 channels of high powered amplification you can feel free to turn up the volume and immerse yourself in the 3 dimensional surround sound experiences of today's DVD movies, music, games, PC audio, and High-Definition TV. Auto MCACC (Multi Channel Acoustic Calibration) ensures easy set-up and multi-channel accuracy. First, it listens with the supplied room calibration microphone, to how well your speakers and room get along, then it makes adjustments to ensure that sound from each speaker is reaching your ears at the same time and same volume. As to any issues your speakers and room may have, Auto MCACC applies professional level acoustic equalization therapy to each speaker, ensuring you hear the real soundtrack. Three component video inputs provide high-definition and progressive scan video switching. The VSX-816-K is also one of the first receivers to offer XM-HD Radio with Neural Surround.

a really good deal!

Strengths: front speaker bi-amp. awesome connectivity. 7.1 surround. speaker settings highly configurable. pre-amp outputs available. Pretty heavy and seems to be of high build quality overall.

Weakness: no hdmi. treble/bass controls missing from remote!

First of all - i am not a receiver connosseiur. I bought this one to replace an old mini system that was serving as my amp. This was the best receiver for the price that could drive my front speakers (JBL bookshelf) that are bi-amped. And i can still configure it for 5.1 surround sound (which i haven't so far). My primary listening mode is music in stereo - and i was amazed at how much clearer my...

Great value

Strengths: Digital Optical In and 110 Watts continous out.

Weakness: When using to control TV the volume up and down are not display on the TV.

I purchased new Klipsch speakers for surround system to go with new widescreen TV. My DVD and Tivo bothe have HDMI and I was originally looking to get the Pioneer VSX-1016TXVK. The VSX-816 is identical to the VSX-1016TXVK except it has no HDMI ports. I realized that by hooking the HDMIs directly to the TV and then use digital opitical out of TV into the receiver I could save money and not loose...

Movies and Gaming interests have been renewed

Strengths: Auto setup

Weakness: Needs another optical audio input.

Great separation between vocal and ambient sound. Component video switcher does degrade picture quality a tiny bit, but after a while, I no longer notice.

Of course I am still to see an OEM universal remote that actually works with all my entertainment components.

This budget 7.1 surround system is worth the $225.00 I paid.

Great simple receiver

Strengths: decent price, easy to set up, no major problems out of the box

Weakness: could use more digital inputs

This receiver is very easy to use. I bought it to replace an older Pioneer receiver which was very similar in functionality. I didn't want anything fancy and this is perfect for my needs. Has an onscreen setup which might be useful for some. Remote is fine but I programmed a universal remote to use with it. I feed my xbox, dvd player, and tivo receiver into this receiver without any trouble and...

Receiver sounds great

Strengths: Warm sound, easy setup, multiple inputs

Weakness: no HDMI

This receiver has excellent sound. The surround sound out of my system sounds much better than with my old reciever. Optimizing the setup with the Auto MCACC feature with included microphone was easy and works well. The only drawback is no HDMI but for recievers in this price, that is to be expected. I am very pleased with this purchase.
